Le WFB7 est arrive

First battle under the new Warhammer v7 rules, which arrived in the post yesterday. Most of the changes seemed to have been well trailed, so no real surprises execpt the new suggested terrain rules which pretty much guarantee you the terrain you want at the edges of the board and allow no terrain in the central 2 foot of the board - expect lots of shooty armies fighting it out across wide valleys and not daring to cross the central killing ground.

The battle was hard fought and ended with a marginal victory for the elves who were able to avoid the worst of the dwarven missile fire due to their speed and were then able to gradually squeeze the remaining dwarf blocks.

The dwarves lined up on their side of the battlefield - three units of shooters backed up by a block of warriors and a block of iron breakers. The elves refused one flank, with the centre held by a colt thrower on a hill and a small unit of Ellyrian reavers, then three small units of cavalry and then a unit of spearmen and one of sword masters.

The elven tactic was to push across the table as fast as possible, taking the first turn. They were helped by a fairly poor first turn of dwarven firing, even with a revealed flame cannon, that took a few casulaties off each of the elven cavalry units. Next elven turn and they were in, charging two of the crossbow units and the artillery park. The elves won all three combats but in two cases the dwarves passed their break tests on 4 and held. The central crossbow block was pursued off table by the silver helms.
